Vat 1 1999

Out of curiosity I dragged an 99 and 00 Tyrrells Vat 1 out the cellar to have with a saffron risotto , I was not disappointed . Smooth on the palate still, subtle lemon overtones and still a lot if life. The 99 was still drinking wonderfully while the 00 was more reserved. Have not touched these for...

My only concern was the 2 dozen white I had shipped that week.

Well, an addendum. Having been caught with smoked tainted wine I hope this will not be a concern.

Re: Penfolds 407 1997-2002

I'll try another 01 407 this week. Bottle variation? Hopefully Although up until 6 years ago I had all my wines stored off site in professional storage facility, after the 3 rd weekend in a row of seeing the temp at 18.4 I decided to build my own cellar . Here is hoping that's not the problem Graham

Re: Penfolds 407 1997-2002

Mahmoud My thoughts as well but the wine gods proved fickle ; many wines have proved to be very hit and miss. As I like to say, some are like an angel pissing down your throat( I tend to get in a bit on trouble with this wine description) while other make me wonder why I purchased them in the first ...

Penfolds 407 1997-2002

Retired all my 407 ( 97-2002) to the drinking rack last month. Not surprisingly the 00 and 01's had fallen apart, not a lot of fruit and a little stale. Opened a 97 last night with a wagu steak, what a nice surprise Lots of fruit still (blackcurrent) and mint on the back palate, tannins still firm a...

Yep, been a member for 10 + years. Every year get vat 1 and 47, and vat 9. Since release have got 4 acres every year. Have yet to see this years notes but doesn't matter as I have a standing order .

All of them. It's a rare chardie that has any melo in them, a full malo is almost non-existant much to my sadness.

Sounds good so far . To help narrow it down, fly into Christchurch for 3 nights, 1 night Blenheim , 2 in Nelson , 1 in franz joesph, 2 in Queenstown and 3 in Dunedin . Restaurant advice happily taken.

They started it about a year or 2 ago, gives you pre-release access to wine and special releases. Basically guarentees wine each year but you must have a standing order; slick marketing? I'm also a lakes folly A lister and a stonewaller, same thing I guess.

While to go yet as they are all 2005 vintage, on a brighter note they should start releasing the 05 vintage champagne soon to add to Little Miss E's collection.

Then you have the other end of the spectrum. No vinyard names mentioned but I had a six pack of chardonnay I paid $80 a bottle for. The first two were sublime but the last four were clearly baked in transit. I retain all bottles to return to vinyard at my expense but they responded that if 4 were ba...
