A couple of Pinots - all beer and skittles!

2005 Bouchard Pere et Fils Beaune du Chateau 1er cru
I'm pretty sure Burghound gave this 89-91 points, and it's easy to see why.
Even at such a young age, this wine is just beautiful, silky smooth mouthfeel, plentiful palate filling fruit, lovely structure, acidity and tannins, and a generous length, and I'm sure it will blossom over the next 8-12 years. If you drink it early, be generous in decanting. Excellent wine.

2007 Tapanappa "Foggy Hill Vineyard" Pinot Noir
JH gave this 96 points. He said it sent shivers down his spine!
Tapanappa is Brian Croser's joint venture with Jean-Michel Cazes (the owner of Lynch-Bages - Bordeaux). There is already excellent "Tiers" Chardonnay, and "Whalebone" Shiraz-Cabernet (tasted at our recent Adelaide Offline).
2007 is the first pinot vintage, from what sounds like an ideal pinot vineyard. Very impressive smokey nose, with red and dark fruits, really quite unique, really Burgundian, and the palate follows strictly. Beautiful bright, well defined fruit, crisp acidity, smokey cedary oak (but nice), grippy tannins, huge length, impeccable structure and balance.
For a first vintage this is an exceptional wine, and it is a great pity that only 900 cases were made, and most were exported.
If you see some, be sure to pick it up! "A pure expression of unique Australian terroir"

Cheers

John

This is the Premier Cru wine, right?

Sounds good - what's the fiscal damage for this kind of outlay? (if one can find it - I can find a bit of the 05 Bouchard 1er Cru)

Cheers,
Ian

The Tapanappa was $50, the Bouchard was $80. If you would like to know where, please pm me.

I can get the Bouchard about the same price mates-rates. Where's the Tapanappa sourced from - is it Wrattonbully like the Whalebone, or elsewhere?

Cheers,
Ian

The Tapanappa comes from a single vineyard (Foggy Hill vineyard), at Parawa, the highest point on Fleurieu Peninsula. A steep north facing slope, with ironstone footings. Bernard clones, densely planted, yield a meagre 5 tonnes per hectare.

Not a 1er. Not even a Village wine, its Bourgogne. An expensive Bourgogne - albeit one of the best at this level - even at its street price on release which was $55 to $60. Johns right - Burghound gave it 89.

Wizz, it actually DOES say on the label that it is 1er cru.

and ...

"Beaune du Château: a Bouchard Père & Fils speciality
One hundred years ago, Antonin and Joseph Bouchard made a sensation by proposing a completely new cuvée: Beaune du Château. A blend of several parcels vinified separately, the result was a wine which represents the different facets of the Beaune "terroir", both red and white.

Be it red or white, Beaune du Château is always sure to please
For a centyry now, Bouchard Père & Fils has been blending this premier cru every year as 100% pinot noir or 100% chardonnay from the unique Château de Beaune.
Whether white or red, the blend ensures constant taste and the same pleasure year after year, whatever the harvest.

Beaune du Château
A blend of the following premier cru parcels, all Bouchard Père & Fils properties:
Les Aigrots, Les Champs Pimont, les Avaux, Sur les Grèves, les Bressandes, A l'Ecu, Le Clos du Roi, En Genêt, les Cent Vignes, les Toussaints, les Grèves, le Bas des Teurons, les Seurey, les Reversées, les Belissands, les Sizies, les Tuvilains, les Pertuisots, les Boucherottes. "

Whaddya know. I stand corrected - I apologise.

I seem to be thinking in the wrong spot on the Bouchard "ladder". They claim 146 different cuvees overall.

Thanks,

Nah, just got a bit of sh!t on my liver this weekend, serves me right for not checking my facts.

All will be well if Hawthorn win tonight and Buddy kicks 100.
