Orlando Russet Ridge 1998

Post by rocknoise »

When I first started enjoying wine this was a favourite I discovered in my price range.
I came across this 1998 gathering dust.
Anyone have any thoughts on how it would be drinking now?

Open it and try it. Can't imagine it's still in need of much longer to enjoy at it's fullest. If not, it may be a bit past, possibly?
Cheers

Halliday had a drinking window of 2003-2010, so if it's been stored well it could be around its peak.

Some of the basic entry level Coonawarra wines from 1998 like Jamieson's Run are still holding up very well, which could be a good sign.

Cheers,
Ian

thanks guys
was nice to know anyway even tho we were sure to open it anyway!
Was pretty damn delicious hey!
Was a busy night so I don't have a lot to tell anyone about it. Was starting to lose its brightness a little and have some cloudy very fine sediment hanging around but previous bottles have been that way a lot younger too.
Standing and decanting fixes that and the plum and chocolate flavours come out with interesting dry tannins on the finish that make you want to pour again.
I guess it sorta went down the way it always has. Not sure if any extra time changed much. A little smoother maybe?
Always wondered how these affordable Coonawarra numbers would hold up. Guess it's nice to know that if these quaffers are your favourites you can keep your favourite vintages a little longer for that extra romance
