Voyager Estate Cab/merlot 04

Post by seddo »

Tried the 02 vintage of this last pm - what an absolute "balltearer" -poetic I know - realise 02 wasn't the best Margaret River vintage so just wondering has anyone heard when the 04 is being released

cheers

Shoudn't be too long, the 2003 was released just over a year ago, but it probably depends on how much of the 2003 is still in the channel. If you've seen the huge barrel room / cellar under the gardens at Voyager Estate you'll know they aren't short of space to store packaged wine.

Have a look here, down towards the bottom of the story, there may even be some of the 2004 in that pile of boxed wine on the right. ;-)

Malbec

Post by Blend »

While on the subject of WA, I note they make regular use of Malbec.

Can anyone suggest a Malbec?

From the winery
We plan to release the 04 Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot on March 1st. It should therefore be available in the trade from about the 2-3 week in March.

Woodlands do one IIRC, but it ain't cheap (~$65 I think) and there usually isn't much of it.

Ferngrove also do one called Dragon or Dragan or summat and I think that's in the $20-30 range.

Marribrook aslo used to do one but I think the owner retired - I got a couple of bottles of reserve on the cheap a few weeks back but I dunno if they sold out all stock. These were going at $15 instead of $25-30 (I think!).

Cheers

The Three Hills (Happs) Malbec is probably the best value proposition. about $30 IIRC.

** Don't know about WA, but Wendouree's Malbec from the latest vintage is pretty damned good.

Some Malbecs:
Ferngrove The King
Browns of Padthaway Edward
Bremerton (Special release 2006)
Gapstead
Petersons (Mudgee malbec)
Ben Potts
There are a few sparkling Malbecs around - Tatachilla is one
And a bunch around from Argentina and Chile

Not sure how true, but I read on another site someone has receive the latest offer from the winery and the Cab Merlot is upto $60.. More than 50% rise on what the 03 is will just about trigger an interest rate rise alone if true :?:

If it was on my site you didn't read the note too well. The CD price on release for the 2004 will be $60, (less 10% for current Voyager Gold members), up from $45 for the 2003. I'm guessing CD price will be RRP, how that translates to street price is anyones guess at this point. So, it is a substantial rise, but not anywhere near 50%.

Just saw it on another forum, same deal though, CD/RRP price and good street case price are 20%-30% apart thanks to generous (or pressured by chains) independent e-tailers.

No I didnt get it from your site so hence didnt see any note

Either way should be up over the very low 30's I got my 03's for..which is an exceptional price relative to the quality it must be said

Yep, I agree with you! And then there's Woodlands, another that's really impressed me of late. If I were Moss Wood or Cullen, I'd be getting really worried....
