TN: SAINT CLAIR Pioneer Block 2 Sauvignon Blanc 2007-NZ

Post by Attila »

Just when I thought a remarkable experience (Block 3)

http://forum.auswine.com.au/viewtopic.php?t=7571

can not be repeated, along comes Block 2, another world class super Sauvignon from Saint Clair. Winemaker Matt Thomson is king!

2007 SAINT CLAIR Pioneer Block 2 Swamp Block Sauvignon Blanc

Beautifully inviting fragrant nose with white flowers, stonefruits, slight honey and pears. You already know you are in for a treat.
Amazingly complex and flavourful palate, bursting with juice and freshness. A smorgasboard of white peaches, grapefruit and sweet melon. A very complex wine that'll keep your interest to the last glass. Fine acidity with the most amazing mineral finish!Delicious treat!
Multiple gold medal winner.
This is the last remaining block number you can buy in Sydney. The world snapped up the rest.
Super bargain even at AUD $33.
94 points.

Cheers,
Attila

My notes from 3 months ago. Your descriptors are a little different but Sauvignon changes so rapidly in the bottle im not surprised at all. One thing that doenst change is the quality and wow factor of most of the block wines. St Clair is the king of classical Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc. No one does it better year in, year out.

2007 St Clair Pioneer Block 2 Swamp Sauvignon Blanc. This is a restrained and elegant Sauvignon Blanc that still shows in detail the classical style we all love. Flavours of red capsicum, green pepper and green bean. Reserved and classy 95/109

Just got back from NZ and tried the Block 4 at the cellar door. Superb wine, but for reasons unknown I didn't buy any at the time. Couldn't stop thinking about it and ended up going back the next day to pick up a bottle.

If you are working your way through the Block wines then I'd recommend giving it a go.
