Hi everyone.
I'm so glad i found this site.
I want buy about a dozen good wines for next year to drink for my birthday. May some coonawara cabs for about $30. The thing is can you get good wines for under $30?
I have these in mind"
Dozen 2005 wynns black label (maybe too early to drink, but i would like these to be in my cellar)
Dozen 2001 wynns black label
Dozen 2004 penfolds 407
Or maybe a mixed dozen.
Any other ones that people would recommend?
I also have some 99 Saltram no.1 and 98 Bin 389 but it might seems a waste to drink these at a party.
I only started to get an interests in wine a few months ago and my god it is an expensive hobby.
New to forum...buying wines for party.
Would agree with Craig here about the Mamre Brook. Mike Press reds are the best BBQ wine I have come across for parties where people like wine but there is no reason to impress.
As far as $30 coonawarra cabernet is concerned the two main contenders are Majella and Balnaves (both 2005 vintage). Both great with the Balnaves slightly less approachable at this stage. The Majella has a youthful appeal but will cellar as well.
The 05 Wynns however is a great value buy.
cheers
Carl

Bartenders are supposed to have people skills. Or was it people are supposed to have bartending skills?

wow, after your suggestions i then read up on the Majella and it seems like a very good wine indeed. It seems like Wynns aren't the king of coonawara any more. I will try and buy some 05 majella cabs as soon as i find a place that does it for a good price.
For such a small wine maker they seems to win a lot of awards.
