Hardy's Tintara - Orange Label ????

I saw a bottle of Hardy's Tintara in a shop last week with a orange label.

It was $24 so obviously not the Tintara Cellars range but also not the etched bottle $35 wine either.

Anyone shed some light on this one???

Is it a new mid range or one of the others upgraded or downgraded?

Think I saw something like this. 'What happened to the etched bottle?' I though to myself. Couldn't understand the price. Brand managers! I have no interest.
But you're not dreaming about the bottle. Check the website? (I couldn't be bothered.)

I saw it on the weekend at a restaurant but didn't order it - 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon I think.

There's nothing on the website - I'm guessing it's a limited release/trial blend in between the 'Cellars' paper label and the etched flagships (and priced accordingly - $25 retail/$35 in the restaurant). I hope so anyway - if that's the new look of their premium label it's a shocker. :shock:

I think the orange label replaces Hardy's Tintara Cellars (or Tintara paper label).

See what Hardy's tell you. From a McLaren Vale grower of Shiraz POV the products are:

Level 5- Oomoo ( RRP $10-12 )
Level 4- Tintara Cellars ( RRP $15-18 )
Level 3- Reynella
Level 2- Tintara
Level 1- Eileen Hardy

I was at a Hardys premium wine tasting in Sydney a couple of weeks ago, Bill Hardy was there at the cabernet's table. Actually asked him about the new orange label, he said this was the only range now from Tintara, no more 'cellars' label. Didn't ask him about pricing but the orange label Tintara is the same as the 'etched bottle'. The new label is a shocker, but the wine itself was very very good, vintage was 2005 cab, and it stood up very well against 01 Jack Mann, 02 Gladstones Cab, 03 Leasingham classic clare cab, 02 Brookland Valley reserve cab and the current release Thomas Hardy(not sure on vintage).

I tried the 2005 McLaren Vale Cabernet Sauvignon at an instore yesterday (the one with the new ochre label). The presenter said this new label replaces the old 'cellars' label and will be priced around the $25 range, while the flagship still remains in the etched bottles around the $50/mark (not available for tasting yesterday).

To be honest I wasn't that impressed with the new wine - it's very ripe and slightly hot (14% on the label), and not especially long or weighty. Many of the 2004 McLaren Vale cabernets are a lot better than this for the same or less money.

Strange marketing decision.

Replace a wine that often goes for around $12 and a good reputation at that price with a $25 wine and admit that your best grapes are still going into the $50 bottles???

Most punters would think that they are just paying $25 for the same $12 wine.

BTW - the email I got back just suggested I call for more info - I couldn't be bothered.
