Hello All,
If anyone tastes or has tasted the 2001 Rockford "Rifle Range" Cabernet Sauvignon and/or the 2001 Rockford "Rod & Spur" Shiraz/Cabernet Sauvignon, could you please post your tasting notes/vibes/impressions?
Many thanks,

Rockford 2001 Rifle Range Cab
For what it's worth, Angela did tell me a little while ago that Robert (O'Callaghan) had been mumbling that the 2001 Cab. was his best ever!

Rockford 2001 Cabernet & Rod and Spur
2001 Rod and Spur is Cabernet/Shiraz - can't remember proportions but is about 70/30 - Rockford say 2001 was such a good year for Cabernet that it warranted the change in proportions of the blend. Tasted this and 2001 Rifle Range Cabernet last week. Both show great promise - a bit tight at this stage but lots of rich fruit and complexity hidden in the restrained palate - worth waiting for! 2000 Rod and Spur looks brilliant at the moment - rich, ripe and together - the time in the bottle pays dividens!

The 1999 R&S is looking very special too!
Hi there, I just joined this board and have been steadily working my way through all the postings. Great stuff here!
This might be a bit late for you.... but I just opened one of the 2001 Cab Sauv half bottles this weekend. Was superb. Some might say its a touch early to start drinking any Rockfords, but I enjoyed it. Was well balanced with nice rich fruit. Opened one a few months back when they were first released and it was very ordinary. Was glad to see that the wine has settled down

Have my third 01 C/S waiting to be drunk - the earlier two, tho still quite young were wonderful examples of the variety. Very much dark chocolate and spiced with delightful tannins and great length. This is a C/S that will last quite some years and can only get much much better.

Had the 2001 RS on New Years Eve. Initially opened quite hard with some green notes and very tight. Some enjoyed it. I drank the remaining third over the space of three more days, and it got better and better, more opulent and fruit rich, but still with a fair bit of structure. The earlier post suggesting bottle shock is probably quite correct. I'll be leaving my other two bottles for 5 years. I'd say the 2002 will be a cracker too.
