01 Hanisch

Lovely wine, could be regarded as a touch simple, but well balanced - good structure - tannin, fruit & alcohol in equal parts (harmonious) - very much the Barossa shiraz - without tripping over the 01 ripeness problem. Licorice, plum, chocolate & spice - controlled oak and just easy to consume, pre and during food...I look forward to the remaining 3 over the next ten years. My sort of wine...I am an uncomplicated guy...

I thought it was a GSM (actually SMG). Equal parts mataro and shiraz with a splash of grenache?? But then I have been known to be wrong before :D

I suspect you mean Hanisch instead of Heinrich then?

Not sure who is confused with what

but

Heysen

and

Hanisch

are single vineyard Shiraz wines.

Heinrich is a GSM blend, the blend varies vintage from vintage, but a blend. Indeed the (excellent) current vintage, the 2004 is shown as

Shiraz Grenache Mataro

TN seems a bit underwhelming for a $83 wine?!

Maybe needs more time? No doubt about the fruit purity and 'quality of the wine - and I have a cold....I would still mark it very highly - maybe instead of using the term or questioning simplicity - I could have said I anticipated more complexity? Note is contextual as in this is a super premium and I really enjoyed it but on the night, with cold and after only an hour in decanter - this was my experience. It is a wine to drink a few times in a lifetime....

And....for an 01 it is fine, not hot or alcoholic at all - 14.5% with great fruit freshness & brightness - nowhere near some of the super over ripe shiraz from Barossa in heat affected 2001 - it is a very nice wine - the one potential (in my opinion on the night) downside, was I was looking for a mutli dimensional wine - which may come with time......enuff!!
