Battely Syrah 2004
Battely Syrah 2004
Outrageously floral - lavender, violets, white flowers then roast meat, spices, dark cherry, blackberry liqueur, apricot, stalk and creamy French oak. On the palate medium to full bodied with a gorgeous silky texture. Cool (mentholated) flavours of dark cherry and bramble fruit, sweet roast meat, spices and attactive stalky characters. The tannins are slinky and ripe with acidity that adds freshness and leaves the palate refreshed and cleansed - ready for another big sip. Outstanding length. This is scented, balanced and a textural marvel. This is the real deal. Parker will go nuts.

Glad to hear the '04 is excellent. Had the 2002 version on the week-end and it was very poor. Intense green capsicum on nose and palate - acid way out of balance with the fruit.
Cheers
Paul
I did not rate the 2002 anywhere near as highly. It was foresty and minty. Too much stalk for not enough ripeness. Well the single bottle I tasted was and I was not inspired to purchase. This wine has no such problem. I ordered a case within a few minutes of tasting....

It's a delicious wine.
I put something up on it at http://www.winefront.com.au/news-blogs-contributions/
Battely is still a relatively young vineyard and I haven't been entirely convinced that it was heading for the top tier - I am now.
