Clive Otto to join Fraser Gallop Estate

Post by Max »

I hate being sick - especially as it means laying off the wine as my body doesn't react too well with vino when I'm crook.

This is especially painful when you've got a whole load of chinese BBQ meat for dinner: not just because you can't eat as much as usual, but because you've got sample bottles of pinot that need to be tasted... and we all know how good pinot is with duck and barbecued pork.

Anyhow, one redeeming feature about being crook is having to sit around at home off work, giving you time to finish writing stuff. Here's the latest story on the website, talking about former Vasse Felix winemaker Clive Otto's new role at Fraser Gallop Estate in Margaret River. This is probably the second best story you'll read about winemaking in Margaret River after Mr Torb's fantastic tour diaries!

Enjoy!

Hi Max,

Bloody good story!

What gets me is the spin businesses put out. When I spoke to them I was told "it was mutual" - it sounded like he had a lot to do with the decision when in fact he was retrenched.

I have now edited my story to include a link to the other side of the story.

Thanks for your kind words Max and I hope you are back to drinking soon. The cheques in the mail.
Cheers

Max, you've been reading too much of TORB's stuff!
"As word of Otto’s entrenchment spread"

It looks like they didn't bury him too deeply then. :-)
Cheers
Brian
Life's too short to drink white wine and red wine is better for you too! :-)

Brian,

Don't blame me, blame my over paid proof reader. :P  Bescides, us purr-fect spellas and typists need to stick together.

Max may have been correct; I hear he was buried in job offers.
Cheers

Heha, well picked up sir - changed! That one slipped through the proof reading department, my editor at work would have skinned me alive for that one!

Cheers mate!

Well, you never know - after a vintage at Amisfield, Clive may just decide to stay in NZ. After all, Central Otago is a pretty seductive place, frosts and all.
I've never heard of Fraser Gallop. Will the first vintage be 2007?

Clive was actually considering a move over to NZ while weighin up his job options after he and Vasse Felix parted ways. If I had to live somewhere in NZ, Central Otago would certainly be my pick of the lot and Marie and I are looking forward to our trip to NZ in July!

As far as I understand, 2007 will be the first vintage and 2006 will be the final vintage for current winemaker Keith Mugford. I suspect Fraser Gallop will be a new name for many but I'm sure we can all expect to hear plenty more about FGE in the years to come, particularly after the new winery is built in 2007.
