1994 Eileen Hardy Shiraz

1994 Eileen Hardy Shiraz
In full bloom, soft, smooth, subtle, fully integrated. Bought these at auction a couple of years ago and whilst a previous bottle wasnÂ’t good (the provenance risk you take when buying from auction) this one was excellent. Probably the most mature, ready for drinking wine consumed, not be any means over the hill, but this bottle was definitely at its peak. This was a delightful wine, went down a treat, what more can I say. 18.25

What are the best vintages for this wine? I have been told that they have gone down hill in recent years. Is this true? My local still sells the 96. I have been thinking of getting 1 it to try. Is it worth drinking yet or even getting at all?

I am one of those with the very untrendy hobby of collecting these wines.

There is no debate though that the qpr of these wines has gone through the floor.

My favourites are the 94,95,96,98

The 00 was a bit of a dud especially at the price - but then again so were many flagship 00s.

96 is a big black and blue fruit wine, tighter than the 95 and a bit finer. packed with dark fruits a long term vintage.

I only bought one bottle of 97,99,00,01 because of price compared to the 15 bottles of 95 I bought!!

Have only had 96 and 97 both in the last 6 months. 96 is a beast, with grainy tannins, big dark fruit and a long life ahead of it. Don't drink yet. 97 is ont of those lighter bodied confected types that I seriously doubt is heading anywhere interesting. Drink now.
