One of my fave labels, and having supped the last of the truly outstanding 1995's, this is the next vintage I was able to obtain in my part of Canada.
Ruby red in the glass, with a nose of pepper and mint. Fairly light on the palate with some sweet fruit balanced with some meaty notes. A moderately long finish.
This is a nice wine, but certainly not a patch on other outstanding vintages I have tried. It's certainly a Nine Popes and was very tasty with some Italian food but it's clearly a product of a poor vintage in that it just doesn't have the weight and depth and longevity of better vintages.
A nice drop to be sure but not one that I would sit on for much longer on this showing. Drink up in my opinion.
Cheers

TV: Charles Melton Nine Popes 2000
Had the 2000 Melton Shiraz recently and had similar thoughts, very nice drink right now but typical of the vintage and lighter weight.
2000 is just one of those vintages you let other poeople buy whilst holding back yourself for the next good one.

If you can see through it, it's not worth drinking!
