Report on St Hallett dinner

Post by GrahamB »

Hello all

The dinner went off very well. The red bubbles were great and the whites matched very well with the seafood and chicken.

The only mismatch in food/wine for me was the Grenache Shiraz Touruga which seemed too sweet with the muscat glaze on the duck. I saved a little of the GST and it went extremely well with the slight savouriness (sp) of the Eggplant/Ricotta.

We changed the Blackwell to have with the Eggplant/Ricotta and the Old Block with the cheeses. The wait staff picked up the wrong bottles and began serving before we could stop them but that was the way I would have done it.

The Blackwell & Old Block were decanted about 3.5 hrs before serving.

I loved both the Blackwell and the Old Block and the bottle ends I squirrelled away were exceptional the next night.

A great night where we made mistakes but will do it better next time. I wouldn't want more than 50 people though. You may not believe it but some of them were quite inebriated by the end of the night.

Thanks to all who commented on the original thread. It was a big help.

Cheers
