BBC Jancis Robinson's Wine Course DVD

Post by Vickie »

Hi there,

Just purchased Jancis Robinson's Wine Course DVD.

As per the front cover, its "a 5 hour guide to the world of wine on 2 discs"

"...all about wine, grapes, regions and other wine themes"

Does anyone have any other wine DVD or wine book recommendations please?

Many thanks,
Vickie :D

It depends on what sort of information you are looking for. If the DVD series you have is similar to the TV show Jancis Robinson did, then that's a fairly general view of the wine world. There are hundreds of books out there on numerous aspects of wine. Can you be a little more specific about what you want?

In Sydney? Where? How much?
Does it contain all the original TV series, or is it just edited highlights?

love to know. PM if you're shy!

cheers,
Graeme

I have this DVD and it looks like a TV series. Not sure where to get it (I got mine as a present). It's quite good to watch.

Cheers

Found it at Borders North Ryde! Yes, this is the TV series. Don't know if it's the same one that Jancis used to promote via her website; I had the impression that had serious extras )but possible not all the footage from the TV show). Anyway, I'm happy enough with it. $30 by the way.

Also saw the "John Cleese Guide to Wine Appreciation" on DVD as well. 80 minutes worth all up. Anyone seen it and able to report?

cheers,
Graeme

Hi Mike,

Thanks for replying - to be honest, at the moment, I prefer the general books such as "Red and White" and "Sniff, Swirl & Slurp" by Max Allen because they are fun and not as "dry."

Having said that, I'm looking to invest in a wine reference book of sorts - I think I'd better head down to Borders and do some flipping...

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated :D

Thanks,
Vickie

PS apologies for the late reply and if I sound like I have no idea

Hi Graeme,

Apologies for the late reply

Although you already bought the DVD today, I got mine from JB HiFi in Victoria Galleries, Sydney for $31.95...yep, you got it cheaper at Borders!

Sorry, I've not seen the "John Cleese Guide to Wine Appreciation." However, any idea on the cost please?

Hmmm, I must be a "wine voyeur" or something because I find watching wine DVDs/movies so much more fun than reading wine books at the moment

Cheers,
Vickie

Somewhere in the $20-$30 as I recall. For 80 minutes I wasn't convinced. It did look aimed at a more 'beginner' level. At least Jancis is 5 hours worth!

cheers,
Graeme
