1994 Leasingham Classic Clare Sparkling Shiraz – Clare Valley, SA

Ripe blackcurrants and blackberries with hints mushroom and earth. Smooth with very good palate weigh, good length and lovely sweet fruit balance but seems to lack depth and complexity. Very enjoyable but nothing great. A little disappointing, especially after the great 1992. 16.9/20. $50.

Wine is a strange thing.
I love the 94, had another bottle last week, and have a dozen still to drink.
Maybe your bottle was crook?
I hate the 92. Fruit seems to have faded, leaving hard bitter tannins. It went to langtons.
The 91 is very good also.

I loved the 92 and the last bottle what I drunk at the Mad Hungarians was triffic. The 94 aint no slouch either, I also love it, but not quite as much as the 92.

I Agree with you Brucer, I shared this bottle at the same table with Adair and I personally liked it alot. Others at the table thought it not complex enough (which is somewhat true), but I think it made up for it in sheer lushness and juiciness.

I certainly hope that the 1994 Leasingham will at least be as good or better than the 1994 Seppelt Show Reserve because it will open this year's overseas Shiraz tasting later this year.
The 1992 for me was a true stunner, drunk it three times last year but I haven't tried the 1994 yet, only the Seppelt.
I hope people will like the Leasingham.

Hi Attila,

The Seppelt SR is a level of complexity above the Leasingham for sure. On its own though, without comparing it, the Leasingham is a very nice, enjoyable wine, but I don't know how it will be received with your very trig European wine buddies, if you want to impress then the 94 Seppelts SR would probably be best.

Should not even be mentioned together so far ahead is the Seppelt 94. The 94 Classic Clare fizz is a bit sickly and reeks of coconut oil. Well that is what I think anyway.

The courier took the 1994 Leasingham overseas already....I'll just have to take it as it comes.

All three vintages are most enjoyable and I would be happy to suck on a glass of them at any time.

In my opinion, the 1992 is the most complex and also has the best structure followed by the 1994; however the 1995 has seductive fruitand is probably the easiest and most luscious to drink.
