TN: Faber Vineyard Frankland River Malbec 2020

Post by Waiters Friend »

G'day

After visiting the winery for lunch today, and tasting/buying the 2023 Malbec, I rummaged aroundthe cellar and found a few back vintages. Worth opening one, I thought.

Purple black in colour. The nose is quite vibrant, with sweet blackberry, ripe dark plums, tobacco, vanillan oak, spices (maybe cloves), violets and roses. The palate is medium to full bodied, with more primary fruits, mocha, and a touch of raspberry or redcurrant. Tannins are fine and moderately grippy, and there's some acid zing around the outside of the tongue. Medium to long finish and well balanced overall.

This is probably at it best, but will hold for a few years (which bodes well for the 2018s and 2019s in the cellar).

Cheers
Allan

Great notes again Allan. Frankland River continue to impress with Malbec. Whilst I have not had many 100% malbec wines from there it has been great as a blender with cabernet which also grows well there. The Houghton CW Ferguson Cabernet Malbec is a stunning wine across many vintages. It adds a fleshy plummy compliment to the cabernet much like what shiraz does.
