TN: Faber Vineyard ‘Millard’ Shiraz 2016

Post by Waiters Friend »

G’day

The Millard vineyard is just up the road from Faber’s home vineyard in Baskerville, and in most years fruit from this vineyard is made as a separate bottling. On the eve of tomorrow’s Faber 25th vintage celebration I thought it was timely to crack this wine. Decanted a couple of hours before service.

Light to medium purple in colour. A rich and powerful nose, with vanilla, cloves, Christmas cake / raisin, lots of dark plums and a little eucalypt. The palate is also rich and spicy, with some mocha joining the baking spices and ripe fruits. Tannins are pretty fully integrated and slightly drying, and there is sufficient acid to keep the wine lively on the tongue. Considerable length and this is a well-balanced wine with plenty of years ahead of it.

Cheers
Allan
Wine, women and song. Ideally, you can experience all three at once.
