TN: Mitolo ‘Serpico’ Cabernet Sauvignon 2018

Post by Waiters Friend »

G’day

I’ve been a fan of McLaren Vale Shiraz since travelling there for the first time 30 years ago, and I find the Cabernet Sauvignon, while not as well promoted, can be very good also in the same rich ripe style. I’d not tried this label before.

Purple black in the glass. Lots of ripe blackberry, a fair whack of mint, some cedary oak, graphite and cocoa powder on the nose. The palate is fresh and lively, with some red fruits accompanying the blackberry and mulberry, and coffee grounds alongside the cocoa. Tannins are firm but integrating, and both the tannins and acid are more noticeable towards the back of the mouth. Reasonably long finish and full bodied.

Not a lot of subtlety here, but all the elements are there (in some abundance, mostly). This should have another 5 years in it.

Cheers
Allan
Wine, women and song. Ideally, you can experience all three at once.
