TN: Tim Adams Aberfeldy Shiraz 2012

This has been an occasional buy for me, and I was surprised to look back in the Auswine Forum and find my tasting note on the 2002 Aberfeldy. This wine is of a similar age (i.e. 13-15 years old).

The colour is a deep purple black and quite dense. The nose shows lots of vanilla, cloves, stewed black plums, maybe blueberries and definitely a wallop of eucalypt. The palate shows considerable weight, with lots of developed dark fruits, lots of mocha / cocoa powder, and more eucalypt. Tannins are integrated but definitely grippy, and there's sufficient acid to show some freshness. A long and satisfying finish, and everything in balance.

Apparently 13 years of age is the new 'middle age' - at least for this and similar wines (i.e. big Australian reds). No sign of fading and this bodes well for the magnum of 2010 that has been lurking in a corner of the cellar for years.

Thanks for the tasting note. Brings back memories. While living in London this (and Saltram No.1) was the house red which both could be picked up for under 15 quid a bottle at the time. Ridiculous value. Haven't drunk a bottle of either since returning to Australia (no reason I can think of) but based on your note above might put this on the radar going forward.
