G'day
I hosted a vertical of this wine a couple of years back https://forum.auswine.club/viewtopic.php?p=1 ... al#p169419. This was the tasting note for the 2002 at that time:
Wynns Coonawarra Black Label Cabernet Sauvignon 2002: More secondary characters on the nose, with leather, smoke, thyme, sage and red fruit preserves. The palate surprisingly shows violets alongside redcurrants, sour cherry and dark chocolate. Tannins are noticeable, and there’s earthiness and a little oiliness, with one taster referring to stalks. Medium to long finish and described as a ‘wine with attitude’.
There's minor development in the intervening time. While there is still some blackcurrant fruit and trademark mint, it's the secondary and tertiary characters that are now dominating - thyme, rosemary, leather, tobacco, cocoa powder, and earthy savoury notes. Supporting acid and moderately grippy tannins lead to a reasonably long and harmonious finish.
Unlikely to improve, but still good drinking now.
Cheers
Allan
