G'day
Purple in the glass, mauve at the rim. At 27 years of age, I was not looking for lots of primary fruits but there is plenty of life regardless - pot pourri, menthol, brandied Christmas pudding, vanilla, and leather.
The palate shows tangy red fruits (cooked plums, raspberries), more menthol, fully integrated tannins with some grip, and the acid is keeping a touch of freshness to the wine. The fruit continues through the palate to a moderately long and satisfying finish.
I rarely drink wines of this age, and most of them wouldn't make it anyway. This is one of the exceptions, and, although fully developed, is an interesting andpleasurable drink.
Cheers
Allan

I had a magnum of 98 Houghton Jack Mann last night. Very good. Followed up by an excellent magnum of 2001 Craiglee Shiraz.Waiters Friend wrote: ↑Fri Apr 18, 2025 8:23 pm I rarely drink wines of this age, and most of them wouldn't make it anyway. Quality Aussie wine ages well IMO. If cellared well there should be plenty of fruit left- the joy is the structural edges are mellow giving the harmony and balance of a fine wine experience.
