TN: Myattsfield Joseph Myatt Reserve 2014

Post by Waiters Friend »

G'day

The last time I tasted this wine was at a vertical I hosted in 2021. https://forum.auswine.club/viewtopic.php?p=164989#p164989

The group tasting note at the time read:

2014 Joseph Myatt Reserve: Cabernet Sauvignon 89%, Petit Verdot 11%, 18 months in new French and American oak hogsheads, 14.8%% alc. Violets, spices, red and blue fruits are leaping out of the glass. The nose is showing more plush fruit, alongside savoury oak and chalky tannins. The wine is intense and finishes rich and full. It’s too young, and will go for years.

Over three years later, the wine has developed only slightly. It is showing similar red and blue fruits, Christmas spices and violets on the nose, and the American oak has come to the fore (lots of vanilla). The palate is juicy with ripe fruits, and this is supported by cedary oak (there's French and American in the mix) and fine drying tannins. Long finish.

Drinking very well now, and I am at a loss to predict its future - it will go for a few more years, but will it improve? I will find out :D

Cheers
Allan

Wine, women and song. Ideally, you can experience all three at once.
