TN: Faber Vineyard Millard Shiraz 2019

Post by Waiters Friend »

G'day

I've been a fan of Faber, and especially their range of shiraz wines, for a few years now. The Millard sits just behind the Reserve in the heirarchy, but is a wine of similar quality, and comes from a vineyard just down the road from the home vineyard, in the Swan Valley.

Purple black in colour, and quite dense. Initial touch of boot polish, which blew off on decanting. Powerful nose, with rich dark plums, dark chocolate / cocoa, cloves and spice, and a little leather.

The palate is where this really shines. Lots of juicy plums and blueberry fruit flood the palate, and is well supported by a refreshing lick of acidity on the back palate, and noticeable mocha. Tannins provide good tannic grip without dominating, and the wine finishes long and strong, with a touch of glycerol viscosity.

I've had quite a few bottles of this over the past 2 years, and this seems to be getting better. I know from experience with a couple of previous vintages that this will easily go for 10 years, but this is looking very good indeed at five.

Cheers

Wine, women and song. Ideally, you can experience all three at once.

Yes, really like this wine too. Good vintage for the Millard I think.
