TN: 2001 Rockford Basket Press Shiraz

Decanted for 4 hours before serving.

A deep, rich crimson color. A tight nose, hard to entice out of the glass, some sweet blackfruits and menthol finally. On entry, tight layers of chocolate, dense berries and cherry liqueur. An elegant, full bodied wine of medium length and finishing with drying tannins and white pepper.
Cheers

Good notes Mark, although I didn't pick up the menthol notes (something I dislike).

While approachable now, this wine has years in front of it.

Yeah, the menthol was quite slight but pleasant all the same.

I found that it is quite tightly wound and should peak sometime around 2015+

I heard people saying how good this was to drink on release last year so in a fit of stupidity I opened the first in the 6 pack .
It is not doing it justice to drink it now and I will try my next in 5 years or so.
The 1997 - which I have caned before - is actually drinking so well now and opens up well in the glass.
I dont reckon Rockford is over rated for the CD price.

Yeah, I agree, 5+ year steps are sensible to see how it is coming along.

Are you coming to the Barossa for the Shiraz Alliance Michel ? Its been at least a year and a half since we have had the pleasure of your company (from what I remember of it anyway  )
Cheers
