Eperosa 2017 Magnolia Shiraz - too much Brett

Just wondering if anyone has had this wine?

I just opened a 6 pack and tried a bottle.
Just such a strong smell of band aid and not pleasant at all.

I messaged Eperosa 3 years ago about the same issue (on the same wine) but they said no one else has brought it up. Given how it works unlikely be due to bottle variation.

I've given it a vigorous double decant and will see what happens.
I appreciate all forms of alcohol, as long as its wine.

I tried the 2017 at the winery with Brett and can't recall any brett in any of the wines. That's not to say it isn't in your wines, but I'm normally quite intolerant of brett.

Which Magnolia are you talking about? The 1965 or the 1896?
If you had to choose between drinking great wine or winning Lotto, which would you choose - Red or White?

He's had hygiene issues in the past.

Can't remember which year it was, but he didn't release any wines because of the issues he had within the winery.

It was 2016 and it wasn’t a hygiene problem. It was the first year Brett moved into his new winery and none of his ferments took except for one.

With respect, Brett is all about hygiene - SO2 is your first weapon, racking barrels regularly and if the problem lingers, re-surface (re-plane each stave to about 3 mm ) and toast well.
There's a lot to be said about "minimal intervention "! Often it's like a microbial hand grenade with the pin pulled.

So I gave a bottle to a friend to try and he said it was absolutely corked. He had one of the same wines/vintages from his collection and it was fantastic. So being corked is much more likely I'd say.

I'm not sure how correct this is and would like to hear others.

Brett would be a whole of wine for that vintage issue rather than an individual bottle problem?
and also
Would you often get a whole 6 packed which are corked?

That's 4 out of 4 from the same 6 pack that have now had the same problem.

I don;t exactly know how Brett corks but I'm assuming they have a container of corks that are just picked at random (out of that batch) and put into the bottle.

If one cork has TCA, how far does it spread to other corks in the same batch?

If anyone on here has been involved in bottling and making wine i'd love to learn more.

so I also have bottle numbers and they are all very close - 1909 (not corked), 1864 and 1753 (both corked).

I'm assuming the labels are all put on in sequence but my 6 pack contained 1864 and 1753 numbers.
This makes sense as I'd say they are wouldn't go into 6 packs in the same order they are labelled.

just to close this out - we (Brett and I) came to the conclusion that the 6 pack must have been heat affected.
Each bottle in the 6 had the same problem.
No one else has experienced it so seems the most likely outcome.

CK, did Brett offer replacements/refunds?
One of the nicest blokes going around.
I have a dozen of the 2021 releases tucked away.

A good source of information and explanation of Brett in red wines. (Not checking residual sugars after red ferments can be problematical!)

I had a heat affected Jasper Hill bought from auction. Geez it must have had a baking. Very weird to start and you start analysing a little- cork or Brett or another fault. In the end, a baking was my conclusion having closely read notes from reviewers and punters.

and IIRC brett thrives on a little warmth, so easy to see how it might be blamed as the sole culprit

Not sure Matt. I find it hard to believe it was my end as I've never had this issue before with any wine in my cellar.
