My condolences to Alister and the family also.

I only met John once, at the cellar door, like you Sean, and he was just setting up the selection of jams, pickles, etc to one side of the door, away from the main bars. He was 82 at the time, and I had to admire the commitment to the company business when most others would have well and truly retired by then. I gratefully received a guided tour of the cellars, the awards room (I think that is what it was called) and a couple of other 'behind the scenes' parts of the premises. A memorable day, and John was a delightful person with a gentle manner.
Wine, women and song. Ideally, you can experience all three at once.
