TN: McHenry Hohnen Burnside Chardonnay 2018

Post by Waiters Friend »

My first bottle from a six-pack purchased a couple of years ago. Of the McHenry Hohnen single vineyard chardonnays, the Burnside is generally my pick.

Medium yellow in colour, probably about right for a five year old chardonnay. The nose shows a lot of grapefruit initially, supported by nectarine and grilled cashew nuts (as the wine warms slightly). The palate is well-weighted, with yellow peach emerging from the citrus, and nutty oak flavours balanced by freshening acidity. Good length without being overly heavy.

Overall, this is a well balanced wine from a top W.A. vintage, and it's in a good place right now. The back label suggests cellaring up to 15 years, but mine may not live that long.

Cheers

Wine, women and song. Ideally, you can experience all three at once.
