TN: Myattsfield Joseph Myatt Reserve 2013

Post by Waiters Friend »

The last time I tasted this wine was as part of a vertical I hosted a couple of years ago. http://forum.auswine.club/posting.php?mode=edit&p=164988

The group's tasting note at the time was: 2013 Joseph Myatt Reserve: Cabernet Sauvignon 60%, Petit Verdot 28%, Shiraz 12%, 18 months in new French and American oak hogsheads, 15%% alc. Violets and lifted florals on the nose, along with dark fruits and brambles. Red fruits on the palate, which is satin rather than velvet. Gentle tannins and good supporting acid, and a slight alcohol heat. This shows well as a young wine, and the tasting group reckon this will go another 5 years easily.

A couple of years further on, and this has softened a little. The alcoholic heat is no longer present, but many of the characteristics remain - dark and red fruits on the nose and palate, gentle tannins and soft acid. The fruits, although developed, are very much the dominant feature, and the violets and florals (the Petit Verdot component) are front and centre. Probably at its peak now and will hold another couple of years.
Wine, women and song. Ideally, you can experience all three at once.
