TN: Howard Park Scotsdale Cabernet Sauvignon 2013

The Scotsdale wines from HP are from the Great Southern region of WA - a region better known for riesling and shiraz, but under-estimated for cabernet. There is also a Leston cabernet from Margaret River, and I imagine the Scotsdale gets a little overlooked in comparison.

Crimson in the glass, and deeply coloured. Intense nose of kir, blackberry and lots of mocha (presumably oak derived) and some eucalypt. The palate is full and rich, with a velvety mouthfeel, and the fruit is almost tangy on the tongue. Acid provides freshness, and there's a lovely balance between fruit weight, mouthfeel and grip. FInishes quite long.

This is a better wine than I expected (not that these are slouches), and certainly compares well with it's Margaret River sibling. Probably at it's best but no signs of decline. I'm happy to have another of these in the cellar.

Thanks for the review - I've still got a 2009 of this, so I should probably drink it (ahead of my 2007/09 Abercrombies)
