G'day
Many Tuscan whites are built around Trebbiano, Malvasia and Grechetto. However, when we visited Tuscany in 2019, we found a straight Grechetto from Montefalco (i.e. consumed in the town itself) really hit the spot for us.
This isn't the same wine (it hadn't been made at that point) but it hit the spot for us tonight. Surprisingly golden in colour (for a 3 year old wine), and showing orange blossom in spades on the nose. It settled down to also show almond kernels, and a little brine, without showing obvious fruit characters.
The palate is where it really opened up. Honeyed and toasty characters, but without obvious oak, an initial sense of sweetness which developed into more savoury characters, as it evolved in the glass (and warmed up). Some viscosity / texture and I suspect this spent some time on skins before or during fermentation, as well as time on lees afterwards.
We didn't drink it with food (it evaporated while cooking) but we suspect this would pair well with some of the foods you might normally pair with chardonnay.
Follwoing our initial experience with Grechetto in Montefalco, we have tried a few different ones. This has been the best so far, but not at all similar to the wine we tasted in 2019.
Cheers
Allan

Wine, women and song. Ideally, you can experience all three at once.
