TN: Montalto Chardonnay 2015

Bright yellow in colour and glowing in the glass.

Moderately complex nose, with grapefruit, stonefruit, cedary oak, some vanilla, and some savoury characters arising from age / development.

The palate is clean and almost linear - much of the flavour runs down the centre of the tongue - more stonefruits and vanilla with a tiny bit of lees texture. There's also a grain or mealy taste. Medium finish.

Possibly not likely to improve greatly, depending on how developed you like your chardonnay. This is a good balance between youth and development.

18 months later, and my second-last bottle of this wine.

It's still a light yellow in colour. The nose has barely changed - perhaps a touch more in the grapefruit spectrum, and savoury developed notes. Still complex and interesting.

The palate shows less primary fruit than 18 months ago, and the acid is a little tart. Still got those mealy, grain characters that I enjoy.

Possibly starting its decline but, like its development, its likely to be gradual. I should drink the last bottle over the next year.

My final bottle tonight, just under a year after the last one.

Fully developed now. Yellow bordering on gold in colour. Full stonefruit spectrum as well as some light grapefruit on the nose. Oak has retreated but still in the background.

Palate is also full but not overly rich, and there's admirable balance. Long finish. A good time to have this final bottle.

Reads like the final bottle was actually the best? I think this is an underrated producer myself. Not had a lot but this far what I've had has been good.
