Bannockburn is more famous for its Pinot, but I acquired two 03 Geelong Shiraz late 2005. I immediately took one to a tapa-style restaurant and decanted the wine on arrival. I shared the first glass with the chef (friend of our son). The first whiff spoke of meaty, earthy and truffy nose and among the red and blue fruit and spice I encountered definite soy sauce. The dinner came and surprise, among all the goodies (we do not order from the menu) there was a plate of barbecued beef loin marinated in soy sauce and ginger and five spice. What a lovely match!
15 years down the road, the second bottle got opened. Lovely cork, brickling red and still a lovely earthy, meaty nose covered with soy sauce. Wine is in its last stroll, but still wonderfully enjoyable with a steak just soaked in soy. Just a specialty of Geelong Shiraz, I guess.

Re: 03 Bannockburn Geelong Shiraz
I always enjoy wine notes that come with a story and this one is no different. I like the fact that the wine maintained the essence of its character over the years. Out of curiosity what was the alcohol level?

The problem is there is no left for more enjoyment! Alcohol level was 14.5%.
