TN: Katnook Estate Odyssey Cabernet Sauvignon 2000

Post by Waiters Friend »

Decanted about 30 minutes before service.

Deep purple with red tinges. Complex and intense nose with blackberry, a little raspberry or redcurrant, lots of mocha and vanilla, tomato leaf, capsicum, and some spices. The palate is rich and a little viscous, with more mocha and coffee, ripe developed dark and red berries, and a slight tartness or spice. Grippy but integrated tannins, and fresh acid, lead to a full mouthfeel and a very long finish.

Very complex, full of interest, and well worth waiting 20 years for. The best wine I've had this year :)

Cheers

Three and a half years later, and this wine has barely moved.

The colour is still the same. The nose, if anything, has moved slightly towards the red fruit spectrum than dark, but there's still plenty of both. I didn't mention mint in the previous note, but it is here, alongside mocha tomato leaf and spice.

On the palate the touch of tartness has largely disappeared, and tannins are very slightly less grippy, but all the other elements from the last tasting are still there.

Excellent wine, and as good as, or even slightly better than, three years ago. Alas, my last bottle :( .

Cheers

Thanks Allan for the note ... sorry to hear it was your last bottle. :(

According to Cellartracker I still have 2 somewhere in the cellar :D .

Might have to dig one out for our next wedding anniversary as this was our wedding year.
Cheers
AJ

Cabernet is ... and will always be ... KING!
