Thompson Estate - Margaret River

Post by Croquet King »

Has anyone had many wines from Thompson Estate?

I picked up a 6 pack of their Specialist Cabernet and also 12 of their Specialist Chardonnay.
The Chardonnay was made by Bob Cartwright from Leeuwin Estate. The vineyards are situated next to Vasse Felix.

Will try the Chardonnay tonight
I appreciate all forms of alcohol, as long as its wine.

Had the 08 Cabernet in 2016. My only recollection was it was too young.

Quite a while ago now, some 2002 Cab-Merlot and 2004 Chardonnay picked up when an online retailer (specialising in Western Australia) had a closing down sale gbp 5.60 and gbp 8.30 respectively, and I'd have been happy paying double the price (to be fair, they were proper discounts).

Overall impression was: well made, made to a price, but with skill.

The business model was a kind of 'busman's holiday' contracting local respected winemakers to make wines aligned to their reputation. I think it might have been Mike Peterkin making the Chard back in the day. Interesting business model, and I was intrigued enough to swing by last time we were over (many years ago) but they weren't running a tasting room / cellar door at the time.
