Barossa Valley visit. Need some advice.

Hello,
I will be vacationing Australia in late September and will be in Adelaide for a couple of days. I plan to tour the Barossa Valley and visit a few cellar doors. Any recommendations as to which one's to visit? Im thinking Rockford Winery, Henschke, and Hentley Farm Wines so far. Also, I was thinking of hiring a driver for the two days. There will only be two of us. Any recommendations there? Thank you. [cheers.gif]

Dutschke merits a visit - including their fortifieds. An appointment is essential.
FermentAsian is nearby if you’re loooking to eat properly at least lunchtime. Best to book, though they managed to squeeze us in. Excellent wine list -downloadable on line.

Henschke is a little bit out of the way
Rockford won't have any BP available at that time

Heading up for a 3 day weekend in July. Thinking riesling freak, Tomfoolery and standish to start off with.
MSV and kalleske also as they are walking dis from my where im staying in Greenock.
Also brewey and pub within walking distance.
Maybe Head wines and Artisans sounds good.

Kalleske, Tscharke, Greenock Creek, Hewitson, Rusden, Two Hands, Seppeltsfield, Gibson, Gomersal.
Pindarie for best views in Barossa.

Great dining at Seppeltsfield and Hentley Farm.

We are up in a couple of weekends and I plan to go to Tscharke (and buy up - best vfm in the Barossa for mine), get to Charles Melton to check out the new Nine Popes and a stop off at Hemera. Staying next door to Rockford so will go and grab some bits and pieces too. So many great places to visit and wines to try.

If you're going to Hentley Farm for lunch (and you should) keep in mind the big degustation takes all afternoon.

The pie lunch on the verandah there is a great option too.

One i would definitely add is Torbreck.
Wines may polarise, and hasn't been the most harmonious recent past, but i'd rate it the best cellar door of my 3 Barossa visits.
A lot of credit to any winery that pours out all their wines to the public, especially when quite a few are $100 - $700 RRP).
Whether the RRP is merited is another debate. Add to that the Riedel glassware, really enthusiastic cellar door people etc.
I think tasting might have cost $5 actually, but that came off the price of any purchases, if they even bothered to charge.

Overall I'd rate the Rockford Stonewallers highest, but its not open to public tastings.
