2011 Basket Press

Post by maybs »

is it really that bad? I had some, wasn't a typical or standout basket press for mine but not terrible. Just saw it at one of the large retailers in Sydney for the first time, they had a few cases of it. Assume Rockford have had trouble moving it. Mind you at the $140 a bottle the retailer wants I am not sure they will shift a lot either...

Was it Dan's? they may have got it via Langtons.

I don't mind it, like you say not the big, full richness you expect. Not worth $140 a bottle though.

I tried it at cellar door and thought it was good enough to buy 3.
mind you at $59 it's worth it.
I ordered a 2011 BP over the bar for 89 the other day and I was handed a 2012 instead.
Righto then, lets drink that. It was good. Real good in fact.
I'll be heading up to get some in march.
I think CM gave the 2011 93 pts which I think is about right.
$140 good? nah.

I've drunk a few last year, enjoyed them all.
$140 is laughable of course.

Yeah the price is absurd but I was just surprised to see it sitting there in volume. I don't think it is bad at all. Maybe just a victim of the reputation of be vintage bookended by a couple of very good ones.

It was DM's Dave so yes maybe via Langtons.

Also agree with you Scotty, had a 2012 BP the other week at a lunch and it is a cracker.

There are a surprisingly high number of Adelaide eateries that have BP on their list for around $90. Ordered a '12 at a little suburban pizza joint on the weekend for $90, and managed to score 25% off with the Entertainment book. Not a bad drop for $67.50!

Is anyone able to advise the date the 12 is released to cellar door customers - is it the first saturday in March?

I spoke to the winery a ways back and I believe early march is when the CD will be selling the 12 BP.
I thought maybe wholesalers and stonewallers would've swiped all the 12 BP's but I was informed
they'll be plenty put aside for CD sales.

I wish Sydney restaurants were selling them at those prices. Think more in the order of $200 or so!!

Nice enough wine but found it totally overshadowed by the 2012 Rifle Range Cabernet which is stunning

Agreed, it's much better than the BP. But Cabernet all across the Barossa generally fared better than Shiraz in 2011. Having said that the 2011 BP was better than pretty much all the Barossa Shiraz's I tasted from 2011.

Both the RR and the BP from 2012 are exceptional wines at the members prices. I want to get another 6 pack of each  Hope they offer another 6 pack of the BP to the Stonewallers before they put it out to the general public at the cellar door. Kind of takes away from the exclusivity of it if Joe Public can walk in and buy a 6 pack.

Cheers
Ian
If you had to choose between drinking great wine or winning Lotto, which would you choose - Red or White?

You'll find it hard to get the 2012 RR as the 2013 has been released and the 2012 sold out. I had to get my last 6 pack from a retailer at significantly higher prices. Haven't tried the 2013 yet but have a 6 pack from Rockford.

They were able to access plenty of high quality grapes, so the volume produced was quite large

A bit like the 2010 vintage perhaps? I really enjoyed the one 2012 I have tried.

Thanks for the heads up here on this thread, have just got off the blower from Rockford and finally placed my order, from October  .

Not sure how I overlooked it.

Cheers
Craig.
Tomorrow will be a good day
