January Offline - Rhone Blends
January Offline - Rhone Blends
I'm thinking it would be suicide trying to get something organised before Xmas in terms of numbers with work/friends/family Xmas parties etc. So how about around January 8 2016 before the work year kicks off again for most people? People should know their availability if they are travelling or not. Obviously flexible with dates and theme. Thought I'd get it out there for discussion. If numbers are not huge, maybe keep it more casual and go to Brio in Pyrmont (which is probably best suited to about 12 people)
I'm thinking Rhone Blends would be a good theme, with lots of talk of blends at our table on Friday and how they are good drinking due to the winemaker being able to mix and match what grape grew well that year.
This gives us an opportunity to try Northern Rhone (SV blends), Southern Rhone (Grenache blends), Barossan GSM etc, etc. So lots of opportunity for old world, new world, young, old and everything in between. I know we've done Red Blends already but thought a more specific theme might be fun.

Count me in as always Dave. Happy with whatever theme, Rhone grapes/blends sounds good.
Odyssey mentioned he was thinking of doing a Kiwi theme at some stage too, SavB aside, be keen for that in the new year as well.

Re: January Offline - Rhone Blends
White Rhone blends ok too? Or just reds?
Re: January Offline - Rhone Blends
Sure, white Rhone blends are fine. If it becomes difficult to fill up then Condrieu/Viognier is fine.

Like you I am away, sunning myself at Boomerang Beach. Otherwise would be there.
There is a nice restaurant at Boomie that would be perfect for an offline if anyone is there in early Jan

I read that as "Bonnie Doon".
Ah the serenity.
Re: January Offline - Rhone Blends
Damn Dan that's awfully early for such a good topic. We will be away until after Aussie Day weekend. I would have happily brought along some early Clonakilla or Ch NdP from the south. If you move it to the end of the month then I'd be in.

I'll be in for this depending on dates.
Bartenders are supposed to have people skills. Or was it people are supposed to have bartending skills?
Re: January Offline - Rhone Blends
Would it get more traction if I moved it back a week to say the 15th?
Re: January Offline - Rhone Blends
Post Australia Day would allow those of us with small kids who are away on school holidays to also attend. I have a Pegau NdP 2005 and a few others from 05 I am keen to try.dave vino wrote:Would it get more traction if I moved it back a week to say the 15th?

Re. Wines, pencil in a Pegau and a Rayas Fonsalette. Will decide on a vintage sometime before the event.

Doh sorry.
Re: January Offline - Rhone Blends
15th would be perfect for me Dave, just after I get back from the south coast and just before I go away fishing on the GBR

Drive past this place in Brighton Le Sands every night after the gym. Figure with a Frenchie theme...and would make a change to SPN and Cafe Lyon.
French food, snails, duck a l'orange, plus all the usual suspects. A bit more exxy than others, but they do a 3 course group menu for $55 a head and offer BYO of course.

Not the easiest to get to for the public transport travellers, but nothing a short cab ride won't fix.
Worth a shot? And if we are still hungry afterwards a nice CdP and a Yeeros on the beach would be fantastic

Much easier than Bellevue Hill from your place, Southern Cross Drive, General Holmes Drive, Grand Parade then right onto Bay St. Basically stay on the same road the whole way.
Re: January Offline - Rhone Blends
How about Brown Sugar in Bondi? They are a French bistro and do awesome food.

How can you compare any other tasting venue with Bellevue Hill That place is legendary and is worth all the trouble to get there
Re: January Offline - Rhone Blends
I believe I see a building level of ground support for Brown Sugar in Bondi.
