Just interested in how all u wonderful dad's celebrated today or maybe u were lucky enough to be given a special wine...
For me, my daughter took my wife and I out to a wonderful restaurant where the owner (who I knew in a past life) said: I thought u would have bought some of your wine. I didn't need to be told (I had known it was licenced and the owner was being generous) so I raced home and got a 1999 Lakes Folly Cabernets and a 2008 Heemskerk Chardonnay Sparkling and returned.
The sparkling was a lovely example of what Taswegians are doing with sparkling and the Lakes was gorgeous. A lovely elegant old Hunter with all the tertiary characteristics u would want in an old red. The restaurant owner is a friend of Stephen Lake and enjoyed a glass with me.

Yesterday was spent with my father at the Peel Estate Great Shiraz Day https://www.peelwine.com.au/events-item ... z-tasting/. Our second year at this event, it was a great way to celebrate Dad.
This afternoon was spent with my two daughters. We cooked up a grazing feast for the backyard picnic, and I opened a Tahbilk Eric Stevens Purbrick Shiraz 2005. A lovely wine (as many of the ESPs are) - medium bodied, with a harmonious blend of plums and red fruits, mocha, and medium palate weight. Elegant rather than blockbuster. I'm still drinking it now.

I get two father's days, one tonight and one on Tuesday night, after I return to Melbourne 
tonight, just the one bottle, but a good one, and in good company!!!!

my second-to-last of a six pack case purchased maybe about 2002-03. Words do not do justice to this rightly famous wine, and this bottle was absolutely singing. Incredible, maybe the length was the most special feature of this perfect wine. Certainly at peak drinking now, for me anyway, but has at least a decade in front of it. Certainly an "OMFG" wine.
100pts. drink: hopefully, before you leave this world

I had a marques de murrieta rioja reserva 2008 with lunch and was lucky enough to get a bottle of 2012 Wynns JR from the kids. I'm looking forward to trying it in 2032 or so.

One of the greatest wines made in the last 50 years.. if not ever. I just wish I had bought more 10 years ago when they were available for way south of $500

hahah, Mike, exactly the same thought I had last night!!!
from memory, I got this in the UK in 2002 at the equivalent of $2,500 for a case of six. Only reason I did not get more (there were another two six-packs there) is because there was no way of getting them home thru customs (living in Australia at that time). If I had any brains, would have got the lot and brought them home over the next few years.
Incredible wine, rated as highly as the 2010 St Henri!!!!!
