Sydney Offline - Wonderful Wendouree Friday 12th September

Post by Hacker »

With so much interest in the latest Wendouree release, it would be timely to look at a retrospective of this esteemed brand at an offline at Rocket Restaurant in Chatswood (to be confirmed) on Friday 12th September. Price of entry is to bring a bottle of Wendouree; a strong preference is from the 20th century ie the 1990's or earlier. I know many of you have a stash that qualifies, so please consider signing up for this night :) We can do two tables if demand is strong enough.

What do you you think guys?

If there are too many conscientious objectors to the date we can change it.

Yeah I will probably look into it but we have no friends or family who are close by who can do it, so it usually comes in at about $25 an hour

Got a call for two more for this iconic dinner; Chris and his wine buff wife Rhiannon, who will no doubt add charm and decorum to the usual motley crew.

Plenty more room Sydney Wendouree lovers - I have booked two tables at Rocket, so room for 16 if needed.

I am in... of course!
I would like to bring a Wendouree (something at least 10 years old) and a non-Wendouree red as a good comparison, if that is okay... probably a 199X Rockford SVS... just because I know that Baby Chickpea loves them. :-)

With 12 people, I'd suggest now is the cutoff time to decide if we stick to 12 max and can all taste all the wines so far nominated. Or whether we split into 2 groups, in which case we can split 8/? or 10/? in order of original confirmation order during this thread. What do you think David? Can Rocket do a single table of 12, or was it limited to 10 in the PDR and we have to split anyway? I know a table of 12 would be fine out in the main room.

Good call Tim. I think we go with 12 and if we have more alternates we can do a 2nd table..but otherwise 12...

Sorry, been away at Perisher enjoying the snow for a few days.

You guys are right, 12 is the max and any more will be just too many. Any more will be added to a reserve list. 12 people gives a 60ml pour which will give a fair indication of each particular wine.

I cant believe i am typing these words, but am afraid to say i have to pull out of this one as I have double booked.
My mate Dan though is still keen to go and I told / lied to him about how welcoming, friendly, and knowledgable you all are :D He is super keen and I am sure he will make a good addition to the table, so I hope it is alright that he still appears.
Dave (Hacker), thanks for organising, will have to wait for the next one.

Hi Guys,
Matt's plus one for the Wendouree dinner here, Dan. I'm loving reading your vino discussions by the way.
If I can still cruise along I'd be well chuffed. Also, I'm sure you've got 8237464579349 others that would be interested in taking Krusty's spot but if not a close friend of mine is a MEGA Wendouree fan who would die to come along. I told him to jump on the forum and express his interest but he is a pilot and is flying as we speak unfortunately.
I know there's an order with this stuff and I'm a newby so guided by you Hacker.
Looking forward to putting some faces to names at some point.
Cheers again.

Welcome Dan! With Matt out that leaves a manageable number of 12 with a pour from each bottle of 60ml after a small decant (Wendourees generally throw some sediment), unless Alex (catchnrelease) can't make it. Alex, how are you placed?

I think I have a 1991 shiraz.
