Leeuwin's reputation mostly comes from its Chardonnay. The reds are fine, but the Prelude is really just a second label. $US30 looks like a lot - the current vintage sells for about $A25 and it's not really a cellaring wine.
97 was a pretty good year in MR and the Art Series Cab from that vintage was a ripper. From memory the 97 Prelude was pretty good as well, and probably is still drinking well, but US$30 sounds way steep to me.

You must have loved them then
ha.
well a few bottles of the '97 Art Cab were complete horses arse but some (storage conditions, pot luck) were really exceptional. Not game to cellar or buy anymore though (no pun intended). Now the 1999 Art Cab...that is a silly wine. 15% of thick sludge.
And btw, I took y'all's advice and picked up the 2001 Penfolds RWT's. I got them for $42 each, which I guess is a steal for that wine--it was priced at $66 US, and I managed a 30% discount.

I think lots of Australians would kill to get RWT at that price. It's not that often we see them under $A100, or $US75. I've never seen them even close to that cheap.
We've got one bottle in the cupboard, but haven't tasted it yet. Jeremy Oliver seems to think it's not a long keeper, suggesting 2005-2008. Halliday suggests 2005-2020. Maybe try one in three years and then guess when to open one next.
