Old wine bottles

I'm in the process of moving house, and have come across some of my old trophy wine bottles. Not sure what to do with them now. Any other tragics souvenir their empty special bottles?

Yup I used to have quite a few but my co-habitant put her foot down when we moved the time before last ... I think I still have a few in Adelaide somewhere so I still qualify as Tragic (with a capital)

Now that I've started painting wine bottles in earnest, I wish I'd kept a few more. Oh well, it's a clean start perhaps, forces us to reevaluate doesn't it.

A veritable plethora of uses.

I have a couple of hundred old (non-trophy) bottles filled with water providing thermal mass in my cellar!

I've been collecting empty bottles of significant wines for the last 5 years or so. Running out of space so need to either cull soon or find a new way to store them. Great memories!

I've kept about 20 vintages of Dom P, as well as some older Krug, Grange and First Growths. They sit on top of the wine fridges with about a cm of dust on them.... One day I'll clean them.. or throw them out.

I will also put my hand up. I keep a number of empties that are memorabl for one reason or another. Old wines, great wines, rare wines. All individuals.

I have only one empty bottle to be withheld from the recycling bin, a Tahbilk 1860s Vines Shiraz 1995 magnum in its original pine box.

I would keep more if I had a proper cellar, or a room to display them in. At the moment, in my small townhouse, the only storage space is taken up by wine that hasn't yet been drunk!

The only bottle I have kept (and there are many more I wish I had kept) is a 1986 Mount Pleasant Lovedale Semillon.

I also do this ..... i sold my empty bottles to recycles it .

Its so useful for me and my country .

Recycling generates saving for economy of country .

At various stages I have had this problem - but I have removed the label and stuck them in a book. Once labels would come off with a soak in water but the modern glues make that pretty hard. Google wine label remover to find contact like clear film to stick over the label and help get those labels off.

I have just a few bottles gathering a severe coating of dust in the cellar. Special bottles from special times.

I'm showing this thread to my girlfriend as evidence that it isn't just me. I have about 30 empties that I liked or have significance. I even have a cleanskin Barolo.
