I have been a big fan of Yalumba wines for a while but never been to the restaurant or one of the Yalumba wine nights.
$175 seems quite steep so if anyone has any advice or have been before please let me know.
In saying that I am keen to attend more of these type of events, and meet other wine enthusiasts.

I can not vouch for the venue, however I have the pleasure of attending a similar Yalumba event at a local Restaurant. The host, Jane Ferrari was the most "down to earth" and entertaining person you could meet. She has recently won an award for her services to the wine industry.
In relation to the wines - they were good, but not great. I paid around $80 for the event, however I would not have paid not much more ( 3 fish restaurant restaurant at Cronulla) . I suspect the Sugaroorm will be a step up, however at an extra $100 perhaps other forum members can advise.

I won't be attending, but seems quite a lot pricewise. haven't been to the sugar room for a couple of years, used to be pretty good (and byo 
).

Without knowing which wines Yalumba plans to serve (other than the current vintage Virgilus and Signature), $175 does sound steep for an event at the Sugaroom. And I don’t think Yalumba has any ultra-premium wines in their stable to justify the $175 price tag.
Or maybe I feel that way because of the Torbreck tasting I attended last month. For $75, in addition to a 5-course meal they served some of their ultra-premium wines – the Runrig & Les Amis around the $200 mark and the Laird which retails for $900.

I'm a big fan of The Reserve. I imagine they'd serve it and Oaktavius given the price.

Yes for $175 you would want a stack of Octavius, Reserve, single vineyard releases and hopefully a back vintage signature, menzies or contours. Have tried the Virgulius on a number of occasions and just too oily for me.
Jane Ferrari is an absolute cracker...from the old Rockford school...but even with her brilliant wit and wisdom can't bridge the price here.

The Signature is a super wine. They improve with age and are reasonably priced. The 86, 90 and 91 are all drinking really well at the moment.

The Sugaroom are nice restaurant with pretty nice food - but are a bit funny when it comes to wine.
We went midweek a couple of years back, they would not allow us to BYO with a table larger than 4 people despite us proposing that we could get them a table of 15 people.
So we limited the booking to just 4 of us (2 couples) at the table.
Turn up, the rest of the restaurant was deserted, there were 4 other people in the entire restaurant all night, with 5 staff on board. I can't see how that is in any way profitable.
We went midweek a couple of years back, they would not allow us to BYO with a table larger than 4 people despite us proposing that we could get them a table of 15 people.

That's terrible! However increasingly common from what I see around Sydney.
Had a quick look on internet when researching this night and it seems Sugaroom is now BYO during winter months and has changed hands in the past 3 years.
May be different from your experience, may not...
