As a follow up from the "NZ Sauvignon Blanc is the McDonalds of wine" article I highlighted in my "Sour Grapes" thread, some balance for you below. There are retards writing for NZ newspapers too.
Well it happens on this side of the ditch too. Crap writing. This rubbish from some writer that doesn't even deserve a mention. Ten reasons why NZ is better than Australia (what he could only come up with 10 )

4. Our food and drink is better. Yes, a big call I know. Australia markets itself very effectively as a gourmand's paradise. But for my money, our produce is fresher, our meat tastier, our ice cream creamier and our fish, er, fishier. If you're a beer connoisseur you'll be sadly disappointed in Australia unless you're a fan of freezing cold, mass-produced lager. Granted, they make a decent drop of red, but their white wine is rubbish. And we've got way better lollies.
I do agree regarding the beer, I was blown away on a camper van trip around the south island the other year at the general abundance of good beer brands... here in Oz we are just barely getting a "micro brew" revolution and half the time that just means a made up brand mass produced by Woolies of Coles...
Craig , any suggestions for vineyards in South Island ? Booked into Pegasus Bay (as high as we go), Mt Difficulty and Aimisfield for lunches and tasting.

Nothing is so effective in keeping one young and full of lust as a discriminating palate thoroughly satisfied at least once a day.
Last time I was in Sydney I made a purposeful hunt for good coffee checking out a number of likely looking places. Every one I tried was dire. The art of the flat white just wasn't on display. The art of velvety microfoam obviously lost (or never found). Week, milky bubbly slop really
Not saying you can't get good coffee in aussie, just saying I haven't found it yet! Happy to take your suggestions for next time
Judging a country's coffee quality on flat white makes no sense, it would be like judging a country's wine quality on, I dont know, something like sauv blanc. Who would be stupid enough to do that?

Well its not exactly as though you turn up to a coffee shop and taste every variety on offer like you do at a winery. You order one, drink it and move on.
As I said, open to suggestions but ordering one of every type of coffee probably is not too practical??
NZ whites are better??? I will post a video on youtube of me eating my own poo if someone can offer me something from NZ with half as much power, class, balance, intensity, purity, subtlety and all-round loveliness as a 1998 Vat 1 Semillon, or a 2002 Grosset Polish Hill Riesling.
Then we can get some baklava from TIMs Products around the corner then sit in the park over the road with some Framingham BA that Tigger will bring along and talk shit and life will be good
