2001 Disgorge Charlie Melton Sparkling shiraz.

I have been a fan of Charlies Sparkling shiraz for years. I still have some old bottles stashed away, and rate them very highly. I have not pulled one out for a good while.
He says on the label that they need 10 to 20 years to show their best. This one is 11 years.

The wine is bloody exciting. Its fine boned, really alive, coffee over caramel mild liquor. Perfectly ripe cherries with Fantastic balance and great length.

A very good wine.

Had a '99 on Xmas Eve. Looked a bit flat, without any "pop" but flavour-wise it built in the glass nicely. Did have that caramel edge to it and nice length. Good wine.

I have one 99 left.
I just checked his website, no current Sparkling available. I should buy some of the next release.

I totally agree, these are great wines. I drank the last of mine a little over 2yrs ago and have been waiting for Charlie to knock out another batch ever since.

He is disgorging the 2008 in the new year, and possibly going to crown seal.
