Moving to Sydney a over 2 years ago this is my third trip to this tasting which I have found very enjoyable in the past. Wife surprised me buying tix for both of us thought it might have been off the agenda with our relative newborn taking much of our time if not a bit on the money side as well. Someone mentioned the Australian wine show which now no longer exists and I too enjoyed it back in the day and although this format is very different its been a bit of a replacement so to speak.
Price tends to go up each year ($65 this year) with extras like reidel wine glass ($20 so suspect the cheaper tasting type of course), food tastings (can remember food being there in past but perhaps not advertised as such) and tutorial(s) thrown into price. Also restricted to 700 odd this year which I think is the first time they have discussed number restrictions.
Looking forward to tasting some of the big guns, Some of faves from last year in the trophy winners section were the Vat 1Tyrells Semillon (05) which opened my eyes to how good semillon could really be, the reserve Coldstream Hills Chardonnay 06 and the Deen Vat 5 Botrytis Semillon (2006) which became my quaffing wine with the lime tart recipe I tried a couple of times last year.
Are there many people on this board that will be going or have been in the past?
Sydney Wine Show next weekend
Re: Sydney Wine Show next weekend
Would have liked to go (especially after last year's triumph!) but budget (to a degree) and family committments stepped in. No. of children has trebled, so you get the picture...

I'm thinking about going myself (if tickets are still available). Can someone with experience at this show tell me how it is? It sounds pretty interesting....
Re: Sydney Wine Show next weekend
I would describe it as a free for all extravaganza. There's over 2000 wines just on tables in a large conference room. Free pour your own wine. It's a bit over whelming with so much choice, and its hardly an intimate, informative wine tasting event, but still definitely worth going to.
