Yalumba Galway Vintage Reserve Claret 1967 - Advice-

Morning all,

I have recenty acquired a bottle of Yalumba Galway Vintage Reserve Claret 1967 that i am after a bit of information on.
It looks to be in great nic, and the level looks fine too, just wondering what sort of money i could expect if i sent this to Auction, also how do i go about auctioning it....

I am a little green when it comes to wine so i dont know if this is a sort after product or just another run of the mill wine so to speak..

Any help would be appreciated,

According to a quick search on the Langtons website, the last 1967 Galway Claret that went to auction (in 2007) sold for $59.

So at that price, I would say forget about selling it, rip the cork out and enjoy a bit of Australian wine history!

The Yalumba Galway used to be a $10 wine. Haven't seen it for a while. I'd be very surprised if the 67 was any good still however you never know with these wines. If it sold in 07 and got that price it would be solely because someone wanted to take a punt for their 40th birthday with a wine as old as them. I doubt it would sell for that much this year, but you never know.

Personally I'd just drink it but be prepared for it to be well past it.

I'm with Kris - drink it but be prepared to not get past the nose. However, it's worth a punt, because it may be surprisingly good, and as you note, ullage is acceptable and the bottle looks OK.

I've had a couple of punts at auction from the 1967 vintage, of wines in a similar price range to the Galway. One was a 1967 Wynns Coonawarra Hermitage (Shiraz) which was surprisingly good for its age, whereas a 1967 Metala was a shocker. It's interesting that all of these labels still exist now, even if the composition has changed over the years.

Look at it this way - you might drink this wine and talk about it for years to come. If you sell it, you won't be talking about the profit you made.
