1998 Reynell Basket Pressed Cabernet Sauvignon (cork): Dark to inky red/purple - doesn't look 5 years old, let alone 11. Lovely nose full of black tea/cherries, cassis/dried herbs and just a little, earth game and mineral. Inky, earthy/licorice entry followed by medium to full weight dark, blackcurrant/blackberry fruit supported by just a hint of banana oak, finishing very long and sweet with slightly chalky tannins and sweet fruit. Easy to see how this was the most awarded wine on the Australian show circuit in 2004.

Cheers,
Ian

I had a bottle of 96 of this at a 30th in the middle of last year. Despite being quite messy by the end of the evening, I can still recall that it was a splendid wine which easily could have lasted longer in the cellar. Unfortuanately for me it was my last one.
