If it hasn't been reported, let me break the news that 20 years old Ray Chen, an Australian of Taiwanese origin, won this year's prestigious international violin competition, Concours Reine Elisabeth, in Brussels.
Normally I hate the acrobatic nature of music competitions (not too keen on wine competitions either), but Ray is a real natural and made me forget the competitive aspect with a wonderfully eloquent and mature performance of César Franck's violin sonata.
Congratulations to Australia for having nurtured such a fine musician.

With all due respect Eboracum, this is a wine forum, not a music forum.

True, SM, but the title did warn you that it was not wine related, and I agree, it is a great achievement. Who taught him, Eboracum, do you know?

Still, with half the front desks of the Sydney Symphony having decamped to South Australia to make wine, I think its justified! (and, the NWR flags things, as it does with football & cricket posts).
cheers,
Graeme

Tim did say non wine related...NWR. One of the problems with this forum is sometimes the unwelcoming attitude towards some posters from Europe and N America. If the thread does not refer specifically to wine from Australia ...forget it.

I think the English would beg to differ on that Craig.
Although I agree with Graeme, 2020 is disposable TV, not sport.
