One of my favourite cocktails is a long island iced tea with chinotto instead of cola.Ian S wrote:Not wine, nor alcohol, but 48 bottles of Borea e Rossi Chinotto arrived today from LiguriaNot the typical caramel darkened version made famous by San Pellegrino, this has really vibrant fruit, yet still some bitter grip. I'm told chinotto works well as a replacement for tonic in G&Ts, but I'm not much of a fan of Gin.

Opinion seems divided on Fever tree on that forum, but those guys are never likely to agree on that subject!

Re: December 2017 Purchases
Off to Rockford today...probably my last purchase for the year and then Fermentasian for their degustation.
I seem to be getting to the CD later and later each year.
Might also go to PL to get the 2012 Wigan Riesling
Happy NY to all Auswiners
Cheers craig

Make sure you get the really cool Rockford's corkscrew. Very impressive!

Actually my wife purchased this one for my Xmas present: (surprise) a 2004 Grange Magnum! Must thank the wine store for storing it all these years. Now I store it in my fridge at an angle of 15 degrees (see my post on ageing your own wine). Just do not know when I would drink this baby.
Re: December 2017 Purchases
A very nice Xmas present you have there Dang. I've been lucky enough to have this on about 3 occasions. It is a monster of a wine. I would suggest contemplating 2040 to 2050 to drink the Magnum. Perhaps a big birthday will fall within that window for you.Dang wrote:Actually my wife purchased this one for my Xmas present: (surprise) a 2004 Grange Magnum! Re: December 2017 Purchases
Now you are talking. The tiny problem would be that that birthday would be my hundredth! What a hell of a way to go. I had my '98 Grange two months ago, so do I have to wait that long? I understand that a magnum would take longer to age. Dilemma, dilemma.
Re: December 2017 Purchases
Now, there's a dilemma. You could drink it sooner. It will still be great. Alternatively save it for the 100th or to be served at your wake (which ever comes first)...Dang wrote:Now you are talking. Had a great time and actually brought a few whites, semi, fronti, two Rieslings and of course BP, great attentive service as always.Mike Hawkins wrote:JamieBahrain wrote:Make sure you get the really cool Rockford's corkscrew. Very impressive!

Whilst the SVS's are finished, and I have a nice vertical of about 18 different bottles over 8 vintages, CD staff indicated that over the next year or two there are to be some new releases, perhaps a second Shiraz...but wouldn't let on anymore than that.
Had a wry smile walking out in front of a groaning courtyard of mainly Chinese looking at the box of BP..."where did he get that?"
I can appreciate how bloody awful it is in the public CD, there must have been 40 souls jammed in...that said Rockford is doing something right, car park overflowing, people everywhere.
Went to a couple of other CDs today and we were the only ones there! Fermentasian was lovely.
Mike, you will never guess what, completely forgot about the corkscrew, hope they still have one, will need to give them a call.
Cheers
Craig.

I'm pleased for the Barossa and South Australia that tourism from Asia is improving with new direct flights from China. It's such an important addition to the economy. I feel areas of SA are teetering.Had a wry smile walking out in front of a groaning courtyard of mainly Chinese looking at the box of BP..."where did he get that?"

Craig, are they out of the 2006 SVS's or was your comment more about no more made after 2006?phillisc wrote: Whilst the SVS's are finished, and I have a nice vertical of about 18 different bottles over 8 vintages, CD staff indicated that over the next year or two there are to be some new releases, perhaps a second Shiraz...but wouldn't let on anymore than that.

Jamie agree I work with 100s of students from India through to China. What surprised me was the sheer number of visitors... guess it was a Saturday.
